Cake and Sprinkles Debut at the NCC Simply Christmas Bazaar!

Hey there, and welcome to Cake and Sprinkles!

My name is Caleb Poole, and I’m the guy behind C+S!

This past weekend was amazing, as I was finally able to debut C+S at the NCC Simply Christmas bazaar here in Newberg.

It was a great event, well organized as usual, if a bit slow. I’m no stranger to bazaars, in fact, this was the fifth (sixth?) year in a row that I’ve done this specific bazaar! I usually do crocheted items, but this year I decided it was time to take Cake and Sprinkles from just a name and bare-bones website to a full-on cupcakery!

Now, obviously a physical location ain’t happening for a while. We’ll be sticking to bazaars and farmers’ markets for the next year or so, but that’s the dream!

This is the setup we had at the bazaar! So cute! Got lots of compliments on my cupcakes, and sold nearly 150 cupcakes!

I did White Chocolate Peppermint cupcakes, Chocolate Covered Marshmallow cupcakes, Pink Champagne cupcakes, and Chocolate Espresso cupcakes!

There was one caveat, however.

I only found out after we had baked all the cupcakes for the bazaar, but my written recipe was wrong!

Everything in my head was correct, so I had bought the right amount of ingredients, but since we were doing double batches, I didn’t notice that my written recipe was missing half of the butter!

That made them all bake into funny shapes, and be much denser and drier than they usually would be.

I did a test batch of the Chocolate Espresso cupcakes the day after the bazaar to see if that was the problem, and sure enough, I ended up with beautiful, light, deliciously moist cupcakes.

Damn.

I feel kind of bad that the debut of Cake and Sprinkles was with subpar cupcakes, but people still seemed to enjoy them quite a bit!

Helps that my frosting is out-of-this-world good, if I do say so myself. 😉

Anyway, I have another bazaar this weekend in Gresham at the old Kmart, so I’ll be doing the fixed recipe for it! I also plan on doing a lemon drop cupcake instead of the pink champagne ones, as they weren’t very popular at all. More of a summer cupcake, maybe? I don’t drink, lol, so I have no idea. My piping work for that style of cupcake needs a little work, heh.

Until next time, stay sweet!
